Porsche 917 Prototype. Too Beautiful, too powerful.
The 917 story is a story of excess. Of abounding victories, breath-taking beauty and near-vertical torque curves going off the scale. The 917 16 cylinder prototype sits at the apex of all these excesses. With its deft and minimal curves, open-cockpit and NACA ducts, the 917 prototype looked very much the part as the challenger prototype for the virtually unlimited Can-Am series, yet the chassis coupled with this new engine was anything but; suffering from poor handling characteristics and uncontrollable dynamics.
